Editor, The Beacon:

I am writing this letter in support of Chris Cloudman for mayor because I believe he is the best-qualified person to replace Bob Apgar, and the best to keep DeLand moving in the right direction.

I’ve been in business in Downtown DeLand since 1993, and have seen the dramatic changes that have occurred — going from “DeadLand” to a thriving Downtown destination.

All of this would not have been possible without a forward-thinking City Commission, like-minded merchants, and the support of a great community.

Growth and expansion are inevitable, as property values continue to rise, and as more people discover what a great town we have; sales will continue, and so will the need for more housing.

Having been a city commissioner for the past eight years, Chris has always balanced individual property rights with what’s best for our town, sometimes as the lone dissenting vote on some expansion projects.

He will continue to represent us in a fair, responsible way. His voting record is as consistent as his service to our community, and I highly encourage everyone to look at both.
