Textile and mixed-media artworks will be on display in the City Commission Chambers of DeLand City Hall from January through April. Created by members of ArtsEtc, the works explore the theme “Contrasts.” The group has exhibited annually in City Hall for five years, missing 2022 due to COVID.
ArtsEtc is a small Surface Design artmakers group, with members throughout Volusia County. Members’ interests include art quilting, traditional quilting, collage, painting and mixed media. The works displayed in City Hall include a mixture of these mediums.
In addition to drawing on a variety of working methods, ArtsEtc members chose to explore the “Contrasts” theme with varied content. Some address visual contrasts of color and shape. Some address contrasting ideas.
Exhibiting artists from the DeLand area are Bobbi Baugh, Joan Dominus, Pam Kettner, Mary McBride and Mara Whitridge. Exhibiting artists from New Smyrna Beach are Ruth Baker, Janet Bernhard, Linda Hoffmeister, Brenda Loring and Phyllis Swain. Calandra Thurrott is from Port Orange, and Hannah Morse lives in Mims.
The exhibit can be viewed during City Hall’s normal working hours 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. The work can also be viewed during meetings of the DeLand City Commission or other scheduled meetings in the chambers.
