A LOOK AT THE FUTURE? — This rendering shows what the main apartment building for DeLand Commons may look like from South Woodland Boulevard. This building would house 173 studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments, as well as a number of ground-floor commercial spaces.

The DeLand City Commission Tuesday, Jan. 17, will consider a site plan for a 180-unit apartment complex near the DeLand Regional Library, and an ordinance that would allow dogs at outdoor eateries.

Among the items on the City Commission’s agenda is the second reading for DeLand Commons’ site plan. While the project’s plans have been approved on first reading by the City Commission, the commission held off on approving the project on second reading last month amid concerns about the building’s design and parking.

If approved, developer Atlantic Housing Partners would build 180 units of multifamily housing and a parking garage along South Woodland Boulevard.

Another item on the city’s agenda Tuesday is an ordinance that would allow dogs to join their owners at outdoor restaurants. Currently city code restricts domestic pets from being allowed anywhere food is served, including restaurants’ outdoor seating areas.

Other items on the city’s agenda include a rezoning application for 90 town homes on the west side of North Spring Garden Avenue, south of Plymouth Avenue and north of Minnesota Avenue.

The City Commission meeting will begin at 7 p.m.

Before the commission meeting kicks off, the City Commission will hold a special workshop at 5:30 p.m. to discuss water rates.

Both meetings will be held Tuesday, Jan. 17, in the City Commission Chambers at DeLand City Hall, 120 S. Florida Ave.

All meetings are open to the public and can be live streamed on the city’s website, HERE.

While the DeLand City Commission typically meets on the first and third Monday of each month, this meeting was delayed to Tuesday because of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which is Monday, Jan. 16.
