PEACEFUL — The DaVinci Design Studio building at 117 W. Howry Ave. in Downtown DeLand is home to residences, Wild Violet Vintage Shop and Your CBD Shop. The building, a business incubator, has housed a number of other businesses, too, like Trilogy Coffee Roasting Co. and the Beeatroot juice bar.

DeLand Police officers shut down part of West Howry Avenue March 19 after an unknown caller phoned in a bomb threat at 117 W. Howry Ave. The building was evacuated, and the Volusia Sheriff’s Office’s bomb team found no evidence of any explosives.

Crystal Taylor, an employee at Your CBD Store — one of the businesses in the DaVinci Design Studio building — was working when, around 3:30 p.m., she saw police cars block off Howry Avenue.

She wasn’t sure what was going on — and neither was the customer who was shopping at the store — until the police ushered them outside and told them they couldn’t go back in.

The bomb threat came as a shock to Taylor. No one at 117 W. Howry called in the threat, she said, and she wasn’t sure why someone would target the building with the CBD shop and Wild Violet Vintage Shop.

“We’re pretty peaceful,” Taylor told The Beacon.

After around two hours of standing outside the building, law enforcement issued an all-clear and everyone was able to go back inside.
