Volusia County Parks, Recreation, and Culture is scheduled to fill in the sinkhole at Gemini Springs Park in DeBary from Oct. 16 through 20. All parking areas and restrooms will remain open. For the safety of parkgoers, sidewalks, and other areas adjacent to the sinkhole will be closed during construction.

The sinkhole originally emerged in 2017, prompting an immediate response from the County, which installed a safety fence around its perimeter. Recently, following a thorough evaluation conducted by an outside geological engineering firm, it has been decided that the best course of action would be to fill the sinkhole. Once the sinkhole is filled, it will be covered with turf and monitored by County officials. After a minimum period of 60 days, the area will be reevaluated by the County and geological engineers, leading to the final removal of the safety fence.
