One person died following a structure fire Friday night at a home in the 700 block of W. Beresford Avenue.
DeLand Fire and Volusia County Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to the single-story residence at 10:36 p.m. One person was outside the home when units arrived.
TWR81 and SQE81 were met with heavy smoke upon entry of the home. During the initial search, one person was pulled from the home and firefighters and medics began life-saving measures on the patient. Volusia County EMS transported the patient to a local hospital where, sadly, the individual later passed away.
E82 provided oxygen to a dog who was rescued from the home. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the family as two adults and one pet were displaced.
The fire, which originated in the kitchen, appears to be accidental in nature. The State Fire Marshal responded to the scene for further investigation.
