The pilot injured in a small plane crash Thursday afternoon has been identified as Heinz Gustav Peier, 75, of Ormond Beach.
Crews were dispatched at 2:06 p.m. after callers reported seeing a small plane crash in a pasture near SR-11.
Responding units located the twin-engine plane in a field off Eidson Drive near the intersection of SR-11. Firefighters removed the sole occupant, who was airlifted to the hospital as a trauma alert. The victim is in critical but stable condition.
Officials with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) responded to the scene to investigate the crash.
