Saw palmetto grows wild in Florida’s natural areas, and harvesting the plant’s berries has been part of the state’s rich history since before 1575. Landowners who are planning to harvest, sell, buy and/or lease their property out to harvesters are invited. Participants can learn about mandatory permits and regulations. Speakers will include representatives from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, local and state law enforcement, industry producers, harvesters, buyers and the Saw Palmetto Market. Those who plan to harvest saw-palmetto berries must acquire a permit from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The class will also be available online.
