On Friday, Sept. 6, the Athens Theatre in DeLand is going to “Shine a Little Love” on Electric Light Orchestra with a tribute show called “Ticket to the Moon.”

So “Don’t Bring Me Down” and say that you can’t come because of the “Strange Magic” of some “Evil Woman.” Instead, “Hold on Tight” and get the box office on the “Telephone Line” because we are “So Serious” that this show will be incredible!

Electric Light Orchestra is a British rock band formed in 1970 by songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood, along with drummer Bev Bevan. Their music is characterized by a fusion of Beatlesque rock, classical arrangements replete with string sections, and futuristic visuals.

During ELO’s original 14-year period of active recording and touring, they sold more than 50 million records worldwide, accumulated 27 Top 40 songs on the U.K. singles chart, and 15 Top 20 songs on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

“Ticket to the Moon” is a Florida-based ELO multimedia theatrical show, featuring 10 musicians — several of whom have performed on the Athens stage numerous times with their former band The Long Run.

The band members have performed and shared stages with an impressive bunch of bands and recording artists, including Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Julio Iglesias Jr., Rock of Ages, Jennifer Lopez, Foreigner, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Michael Bublé, Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, Earth Wind & Fire, Ricky Martin, Disturbed, Katharine McPhee, Sarah McLachlan, Rod Stewart, Detroit Symphony Civic Orchestra and Sinbad.

Audiences at the show at the Athens will enjoy a 90-minute, family-friendly multimedia experience like no other, filled with videos and special lighting.

The “Ticket to the Moon” show will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at the historic Athens Theatre, 124 N. Florida Ave. in Downtown DeLand.

Tickets cost $35 for preferred reserved seating (first five rows center orchestra, and first two rows center balcony), and $30 for general reserved seating. A $3-per-ticket processing charge and 6.5-percent sales tax will be added to each purchase.

To purchase tickets or for more information, visit the Athens Theatre website at www.AthensDeLand.com, or call the box office at 386-736-1500. Box-office hours are 1-5 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, and one-and-a-half hours before live performances.
