The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office has released information showing vehicle thefts are a steady business in Deltona, the biggest city in the county.
According to the latest Sheriff’s Office report on crime data, in the reporting period that began Jan. 1 and ended Feb. 5, the agency logged seven car thefts. In addition to the thefts of the vehicles, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 13 car break-ins in Deltona in January.
In most of the instances, Sheriff’s Office Capt. Kyle McDaniel says, the owners of the vehicles had enabled the thieves by leaving their cars unlocked and the keys in the ignition. McDaniel urges people to remove their keys and lock their cars.
