Why are Florida Republicans helping the Russian economy?

Editor, The Beacon:

With Russia’s unprovoked and destructive war on Ukraine, one has to wonder why Florida Republicans are helping prop up the Russian economy.

Why has Gov. Ron DeSantis allowed $300 million in Florida pension funds to remain invested in Russian companies? Why is he dragging his feet on divesting these funds?

And the Florida GOP’s attack on solar energy doesn’t merely help utility companies at the expense of Florida homeowners. That legislation helps jack up the Russian economy, where 40 percent of the budget comes from gas and dirty oil and 60 percent of all their exports.

Russian oligarch Andrey Muraviev and Florida businessmen Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman allegedly schemed to funnel $1 million to Republican politicians in the 2018 general election. The indictment charges the money was to go to politicians in Nevada, Texas, New York, New Jersey and Florida.

I hope this or similar illegal campaign contributions are not a factor in why Florida Republicans are helping the Russian economy.

  1. The Republicans do seem to love Putin for some reason. I don’t know if its because the last President told them Putin was a great leader and a genius or if Republicans just love authoritarian leaders. Remember, Kim Jong-un is such a “Great Guy” too.
