NARDJA SEQUI DISPLAYS HER ACRYLIC PAINTING TITLED "MOTHER OF WISDOM."

Nardja Segui is the Deltona Art Club’s Artist of the Month for September. Her acrylic painting titled Mother of Wisdom is hanging inside the front doors of Deltona City Hall.

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Segui’s inspiration comes from her love of the brilliant colors of the Caribbean and painting the faces of women.

She graduated from college in Puerto Rico with a degree in administration, and then moved to Louisiana, where she went to college to earn a degree in computer graphic design.

Segui was in charge of the art department at a Spanish community newspaper for five years. After Hurricane Katrina, she went to work for Homeland Security for 10 years. After retiring, she and her family moved to Deltona.

Already having a love of art and crafts, Segui wanted to try a few acrylic painting lessons on her computer. She found her niche in painting women in the vivid colors of her native Puerto Rico, and has also found enjoyment in creating journals in mixed media and acrylics.

Segui has been a member of the Deltona Art Club and shared her work with the club at monthly meetings for the past five years.

The Deltona Art Club meets at 9:45 a.m. on the second Wednesday each month, September-May, at the Deltona Regional Library, 2150 Eustace Ave. All area artists working in any medium are welcome to attend a meeting and join the club.

The club also has a weekly workshop 12:30-3 p.m. each Thursday at The Center at Deltona, 1640 Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd.
