Fears of sinkholes in a neighborhood on Orange City’s south side proved to be unfounded.

“There are some depressional areas that the [City] Council is aware of,” City Manager Dale Arrington said, regarding the sinking of the ground in parts of Fawn Ridge, a subdivision along the west side of Enterprise Road.

Arrington added the small depressions in the ground surface appeared a few days ago, the result of “broken irrigation pipes and stormwater pipes.”

“The problem is you can’t fix the stormwater pipes without fixing the irrigation pipes,” she said.

Arrington added she does not yet know the cost of such repairs. However, she said, an engineering consultant is working with the city.
