Unregistered diesel tank in Lake Helen
A 1,000-gallon aboveground diesel tank located at Lake Helen’s Public Works building is unregistered and must be drained and removed, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.
Lake Helen City Commissioner Charlene Bishop brought the matter to the attention of residents at a Jan. 12 meeting of the City Commission.
“We have roughly 1,000 gallons of diesel — potentially $5,000 worth — sitting in an illegal tank that is not registered by the State of Florida,” Bishop said. “How long has that been there, and why is that there?”
The city has until Feb. 1 to remove the tank.
