DeLand Police Capt. Frank Williams has been placed on administrative leave as of Feb. 10, the Police Department announced. An outside firm has been hired to conduct an internal investigation. Williams has been a captain with the department since August 2021.

Williams, a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, previously served with the Jersey City Police Department for 26 years. 

According to the DeLand Police Department organizational chart, Williams oversaw the Professional Standards Bureau, which is in charge of internal investigations, staff hiring and training, and the records division.

Williams is listed on the DeLand Police Department website as a member of the command staff, which includes Chief Jason Umberger, Deputy Chief Adam Kisthardt, and Capt. Prurince Dice.

  1. So, the questions remain: WHY was Captain Williams placed on leave? WHAT are they conducting an internal investigation about?
