Editor, The Beacon:

A short while back, the Volusia County Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers hosted their third annual Taste of Volusia at the Tommy Lawrence Arena. Their hard work rewarded attendees with a memorable evening.

There were educational exhibits, drawings and the opportunity to sample a variety of locally sourced products. Sonny’s and local oysters augmented the edible offerings. Tractors, pickup trucks and even a full-sized helicopter were inside the arena and available for inspection. Decorations of the stage, done by a local landscape company, were unparalleled, and a live concert concluded the evening.

What really made this event unique was its atmosphere. Families, young to old, were everywhere, and there was a dedicated area with children’s activities. The setting, food, entertainment and clientele could not be improved.

These fine folks quietly provide life’s essentials, and it is easy to forget the importance and rigor of their labors. A search of the internet for “So God Made a Farmer” by Paul Harvey says it far better than I, and it will give you an even better reason to attend next year’s event and give them your thanks.

Thank you again, ladies and gentlemen, for a wonderful evening and for all you do for us.
