A number of events will take place in West Volusia over the Memorial Day weekend, beginning Saturday, May 25, with:

City Limits Memorial Day Ceremony
1-4 p.m. Midnight Flyer Band, 6 p.m. Ceremony Taps and Gun Salute, 7 p.m. Live Music with Shawn Holcomb, Sonny Reese and Pete Goldilla Trio at the City Limits Taproom, 4425 North U.S. Highway 17 in DeLand.
According to the organizers:
“In honor of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.”
“Proceeds from all purchases and drawings go directly to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2380 as they try to recover from a devastating fire.”

Star Spangled Summer Concert Series
7:15 p.m. at Daytona Beach Bandshell, 70 Boardwalk.
Attendees may bring a chair or rent one for $5 each.
Free admission or VIP tickets: $15.

9:45 p.m. fireworks over the ocean.

Memorial Canteen (Evening show on Saturday, May 25, and matinee on Sunday, May 26 at 2:30 p.m.)
7:30 p.m. at Shoestring Theatre, 380 S. Goodwin St., Lake Helen.

The quartet from the first Shoebox Stage Door Canteen, which was formed in 2010, reunite in solos, duets and jazzy combos to celebrate Memorial Day.

The poppy is a symbol of support for veterans. In honor of Memorial Day, make a “Remembrance Poppy” to take home or share with a loved one. This program is recommended for age 7 and up.

On Memorial Day itself, Monday, May 27, a slew of events are slated all around Volusia County.

Fourth Annual Memorial Day Tribute Car Show
9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Blake Park, 437 S. Lakeview Drive, Lake Helen. Free.

Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony
9 a.m. – noon
9 a.m.: Brass Band Performance and “Heroes’ Avenue”
10 a.m.: Remembrance Ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park, 110 W. Seminole Blvd., Sanford.

Inaugural Veteran Enforcers Motorcycle Association (VEMA) Memorial Day Ride and Event
9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Registration begins at 9 a.m.
“Kick Stands Up” and ride begins at 11 a.m.
Held at Deltona City Hall, 2345 Providence Blvd, Deltona, FL 32725.
Starting and ending at Deltona City Hall.
$25 per bike

Memorial Day Ceremony (102nd year)
9-9:45 a.m. commemoration in the Veterans Park and Gardens section at Bill Dreggors Park, 230 N. Stone St., DeLand. The event is free.

The City of DeLand Fire Department Honor Guard will present the colors, and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Shotgun Team will present the rifle salute to the fallen. Master of Ceremonies Cmdr. Laura Wickett . Speakers will include retired Chaplain Harland Merriam, DeLand High School Class of 1968, with the keynote address; DeLand Mayor Chris Cloudman; and Dan Friend on the status of DeLand’s U.S. Army World War II Tugboat Tiger. The military collections in the DeLand Memorial Hospital and Veterans Museum will be available for a free tour immediately after the event.

Memorial Day Ceremony
10 a.m. at DeLand Memorial Gardens, 600 E. Beresford Ave. A ceremony to remember and honor our local veterans. Free.

Memorial Day Ceremony
10 a.m. at Deltona Memorial Gardens, 1295 Saxon Blvd., Orange City.

Memorial Day Program
11 a.m. at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8093, 351 S. Charles Richard Beall Blvd. (U.S. Highway 17-92), DeBary. The VFW will provide hot dogs and hamburgers, and those attending are asked to bring a covered dish.
