With everything going on in the world, people need a bit of stress relief these days. While talking to a therapist or going to the gym can help, smashing stuff works too.

Opened on April 15, Fellow Earthlings Rage Room in DeLand is the place to go when you feel the need to just break some stuff. “People come in, suit up, select their weapon of choice, and then start smashing,” said owner Austin Hiers.

Customers can choose from a bat, crowbar or sledgehammer to smash everything from bottles and bookcases to computers, mirrors, dressers and more. “I’ve even had some girls come in here and smash pictures of their ex-boyfriends,” laughed Austin.

Prior to coming into the Rage Room, customers must book online and sign a waiver. Once they come in, customers have to purchase a $10 rage license, which shows that they watched the instructional video and know the safety procedures. “The rage license is mandatory for each person and good for a year,” said Austin, “and first responders receive 50% off the card.”

With two rage rooms, an arcade area, and a new bar that’s coming in, Fellow Earthlings Rage Room is also the perfect spot to host an event. “We’re going to have 15-20 different arcade games in here as well as a bar and snack area,” said Austin. “We’re also looking into getting our beer and wine license, so people can just come in and chill out.”

Once the arcade area is up and running, Austin plans on hosting tournaments for Pac-Man, Galaga and Street Fighter. “Customers will be able to come in, play, and win prizes from the case as well as free rage time,” said Austin. “We’re just trying to think of creative ways to get people together and have a good time.”

Rage packages start at $39 for a 15-minute session for one person, and goes up for longer sessions or more people. Customers are also allowed to BYOB (bring your own breakables), select their own music to smash to, and can bring their children to rage out as well. “We have suits in here for 6 years and older, but we also have a kids room with toys and actives,” said Austin.

Fellow Earthlings Rage Room is located in a strip center at 1611 S. State Road 15A, next door to Sweetwater Medical Central (a medical supply business) and across a side street from Badcock Home Furniture & More. Their hours are 5-10 p.m. Monday through Friday, noon-10 p.m. Saturday, and noon-8 p.m. Sunday.
