Black History Month Honoree 2023: Reverend Kevin Caine, community advocate
Reverend Kevin Caine

Editor’s note: For this year’s Black History Month, Greater Union Life Center is sponsoring banners along Woodland Boulevard in DeLand honoring 16 individuals who have made a positive impact on the city of DeLand, and Volusia County.

Kevin Caine has been a pastor at St. Paul Community Baptist Church for almost four years. The church, located on the same street where Caine grew up, has played a large part in his life for 13 years. There, he interacts with a lot of the surrounding community.

“Wherever there’s a need in the community, I try to see how me and my church can help out with that particular need,” Caine told The Beacon. “We all have had some times where it was rough and needed somebody, and so that’s my main emphasis. And my main goal was to help them.”

When he is not at St. Paul Community Baptist Church, Caine is advocating for members of the community during his day job. Caine is a community outreach liaison for Complete Care, a company that helps individuals injured by motor accidents and falls.

“It’s like an extension of me being a pastor, and what I do as a pastor, and pour back into the community as the community outreach liaison for public care,” Caine said.

Caine takes no credit for the advocacy he is a part of. He considers his work a tribute to the people who inspire him, including Pastor Troy Bradley, Pastor Terry Brown, Bishop Gary Tyson and Deacon Kevin Davis.

“It’s the people that God has put in my life that helped me reach areas and goals in my life,” Caine said.

Caine’s life mission is to inspire, encourage and uplift others.
